The high temperature engine oil testing machine heats lubricant samples in test tubes to evaluate carbon deposit, viscosity, boiling point, oxidation resistance and acidity. Two temperature meters work together: the left meter sets and shows the instrument temperature, while the right meter shows the instantaneous temperature of the oil in the test tube. A copper rod immersed in the oil reveals acidity — discoloration of the copper rod at high temperature indicates acidic, poor-quality oil. Wear insulation gloves throughout the experiment.
